The first episode of Dear Hye-ri opens with scenes of Joo Eun-ho, played by Shin Hae-sun, spending time with her boyfriend, who turns out to be Jung Hyun-O, played by Lee Jin-Uk.
After a few flashbacks, the story moves to the present, where we learn that they have already broken up. Both Eun-ho and Hyun-O work as announcers at PPS. Watching how they quarrel and Eun-ho’s playful attempts at getting back at her ex was quite entertaining.
It also becomes clear that Hyun-O still cares for Eun-ho. He doesn’t show it openly, but he expresses it in subtle ways. The episode reveals the reason their relationship ended: Hyun-O didn't want to get married. For him, marriage was never an option, which led to a painful but inevitable breakup. It’s sad, as it reflects how some people genuinely want relationships but not marriage. Unfortunately, this one-sided decision drove them apart. Still, I can see they both care deeply for each other, which made me smile. Knowing that someone who once loved you still cares is a comforting thought.
As the episode progresses, there's a surprising twist involving Joo Hye-ri seeking professional help about her dreams. Initially, I thought that everything we saw was part of Eun-ho’s dream. Curious, I looked up the plot, as I hadn’t read it beforehand. It turns out Hye-ri is actually another personality of Eun-ho.
Hye-ri, unlike Eun-ho, falls for another anchor while working as a parking attendant. She saves a parking spot for the anchor, Kang Ju-yeon, played by Kang Hoon. Hye-ri is entirely different; she’s happier, loves herself more, and believes in herself deeply.
The episode ends with a twist: Hyun-O appears in front of Hye-ri, shocking her. Hye-ri had believed Hyun-O was only part of her dreams. Then, her psychiatrist reveals the truth—that she is actually Eun-ho and has been seeking treatment for months.
The plot is intriguing, with many layers and twists that left me wondering what will happen next. I can’t wait to continue with the series!
