Last night I decided to watch this latest movie available on Netflix as my usual activity on Friday night when new films are released in some streaming platform. It was something that intrigued me with its premise. OK without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Iris (Kelsey Asbille - Yellowstone TV series etc) was having a moment by herself on the mountain top when she met a man named Richard (Finn Wittrock - Luckiest Girl Alive, Ratched TV series etc) who unexpectedly kidnapped and injected her with something that would paralyze her after a while.

Iris had to use all her wits and whatever strength she had to save herself before she was fully incapacitated.

So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Yes the premise was that simple. And with such story I thought I would be feeling intense from beginning till the very end.  However, not sure why but I felt the movie was not entirely suspenseful. Now the beginning was OK for me and I was totally fine with the background to provide context. And actually from the moment of the kidnapping, it was enjoyable especially during the cat and mouse moments.

But half way through the movie, I felt the suspense decreased a bit. The worst part was the appearance of the next character (not the first one cause that was good to add intensity). It seemed he was not given proper writing which made me feel a little bit ridiculous. Subsequently the story moved in a standard pace and a predictable conclusion. There was no more intensity and no twist that would make me more satisfied when the film ended.

For such movie, the acting had to be excellent to keep us interested and I thought both lead cast were more than decent. I have seen Finn previously in those American Horror Story series multiple times, so not surprised to see him here. While I have never seen Kelsey before, I think she was capable enough to counter Finn. There were two more support cast of Moray Treadwell as William and Daniel Francis (Stay Close mini series etc) as a police officer. The film itself was written by TJ Cimfel & David White and directed by Adam Schindler & Brian Netto who have worked together in Delivery: The Beast Within. The major name that was promoted was definitely one of the producers Sam Raimi (director of first Spider-man trilogy, Evil Dead etc).

Overall this was a pretty good cat and mouse thriller movie with quite interesting characters, but personally it lacked a bit in maintaining its suspense and intensity. It was good for the first half but the second half was not really enjoyable for me. And without any twist, it was not as memorable as I would have hoped for. Plus the special effect was not that good in one of the scenes, though the rest were OK. So if you are hoping for nonstop thrilling/intense film or you are hoping for an intelligent psychological thriller, then you might not be fully satisfied with this like me. However, if you trust the critical reviews (which seemed pleased enough with the movie), then you are welcome to give it a try.
