Our favourite co-ed group is back, KARD Ask Us To Tell My Momma

The co-ed K-POP group KARD are back with seventh mini album Where To Now? (Part.1 : Yellow Light) and title song Tell My Momma.

Our favourite co-ed group is back, and just in time for summer! I’ve really loved their 2022 Ring The Alarm and last year’s ICKY (and the album in general) was such a fun release, so I was wondering what kind of style KARD would be bringing into 2024. I saw that the members were heavily involved, especially BM, in the producing process so I’m definitely ready for some fun music from KARD this time around. They also always come through with some hidden gems on their albums so I’ll make sure to check out the b-sides as well, of course. It seems like the concept is softer than what’re used to from them so I’m ready to dive in – let’s review Tell My Momma.

Tell My Momma caught me off guard because I had no idea it would be mostly in English and they did such a great job. The song is much more low-key than what we’re used to from KARD (but still sounds very much like their style, especially the summer one) but it works well. This is definitely the type of song you’d listen to during a summer night with your car windows down or your room windows open – it’s very laid-back, but still brings the summery atmosphere to us. Tell My Momma is something new for KARD for sure, especially when talking about their title tracks, but it’s nice that they’re trying out different sounds and styles because it will also help them grow artistically. All of them have always been very involved in their music and the making of it, so I think it’s nice we keep getting different styles from them each time. Tell My Momma is very enjoyable and relaxing, and the kind of song I’ll gladly listen to while sitting on my balcony in the evening this August. The styling is also stunning as well as this artistic, wistful music video. Probably one of their prettiest music videos in general.

The new album offers some fantastic tracks as expected. KARD always have great b-sides and I’m glad to see we have some standout ones here as well, especially Waste My Time and Shimmy Shimmy. Waste My Time has that slight tropical feeling that we’ve grown to love from KARD – it’s such a summery, refreshing song and I love it. The girls specifically went insane with smooth and soft vocals in this track. I’d love to see a live performance of this stunning song. It also has such a dreamy instrumental which I’m a sucker for. Shimmy Shimmy, on the other hand, could’ve easily been the title track. It’s fun, catchy, energetic, and perfect for the summer. The chorus is so interesting to me and I like how they split it into two parts – it sounds like old-school KARD to me and I’m here for it. Could’ve easily taken the role of the title honestly. Worth checking out.
